Is my property in a flood zone?

Flood losses are becoming more common in places that are not normally prone to flood damage. And, since typical homeowners insurance policies do not include flood insurance, more people are left paying for the damages out of pocket. Purchasing a flood insurance policy protects your home and contents from flood losses as decided by the National Flood Insurance Program.

FEMA has a flood map to see if your area is in a high risk flood zone.

You may be required to have flood insurance based on the location of your property. Also, different insurance carriers may have their own way of determining high risk flood zones based on past insurance claims and forecasts.
